A Gibson electric guitar that tunes itself!

January 12, 2008 at 3:33 pm (Hot Stuff) (, )

Holy shit! I can’t believe my eyes when I see this video.

I’m definitely getting my hands on one even if it takes me ages to collect the money. I want this piece of shit man!

It’s a Gibson electric guitar that has a capability to tune itself. No more listening and manual tuning, the guitar does the tuning. Don’t believe me? See below.

Polish teen hacks into train system, injuring 12 people

January 12, 2008 at 3:27 pm (Hot Stuff) (, )

Source: The Register

A 14 year old polish teen in the city of Lodz  has allegedly used his smart ass to play with a Polish public transport system.

He constructed a device like a TV remote control to alter the the tram’s direction. Apparently, he has been trespassing the local  tram depots to gather information needed to built the device.

Because of his talent, he derailed 4 trains, injuring 12 passengers. Luckily, nobody was hurt during his mischievous prank.

He is now sent to special juvenile court of charges for endangering public safety.

——————————

Put that aside,  I wished the boy’s smart ass could be used to help the Polish train system. I mean, if it’s that easy for a 14 year old boy to manipulate the system, it could mean that the security in place is lax.

Think about it. It’s like a platform for future, more dangerous attempts, especially terror threats if they managed to study such flaw.

I hope more transport systems try to ensure a basic level of security system into their transport network. At least, the depot much have a much tighter security so as to prevent further mishaps.

Gmail Manager: Firefox Add-on

January 12, 2008 at 2:53 pm (Technical Stuffs) (, , , , , )

I want to publicly announce that I’m one of those who don’t use Internet Explorer.

Firstly because I didn’t update it to IE7, so I will never know what IE has got to offer.

Secondly, I’m happily married to my FireFox browser which I have been using for years ever since I got bought my computer (back in 2002). I have used it to go through thick and thin and I’m am very pleased with it.

Thirdly, I enjoyed using add-ons. They enhance my browsing experience with minimal effort. I install them, and they will do all the dirty job.

Today I’m going to talk about my favourite Firefox add-on, which is the Gmail Manager. It is develop for users who uses Gmail (like me!) as their primary email address. One thing I liked about Gmail is the ease of setting the account up, be it my iPod Touch or my Nokia 6300. I have access to my email wherever and whenever I want.

Anyway, Gmail Manager is a firefox add-on which allows you to manage multiple accounts and receive email notifications. Quite handy if you always keeps your hands full on the browser while wanting to know if you have new emails or not.

I set my preference to check for new emails every 1 min, so I won’t miss any mails whenever I go online.

Favourite 3rd party app

January 12, 2008 at 3:03 am (Personal, iPhone, iPod Touch) (, )

iSolitaire Screencap

I’ve been meddling with my iPod Touch lately, and I keep using the same programs over and over again.

And my favourite app is definitely iSolitaire, one of the most simplest of it’s kind. The game runs just like the one I always play on my Windows XP.

Now I no longer suffer the boredom of sending my girlfriend home. :)

Keeping touch with iPhone/iPod Touch news

January 12, 2008 at 2:57 am (Personal, iPhone, iPod Touch)

I keep reading about iPhone/iPod Touches updates just to keep track of what’s happening. I got a great feeling that whoever uses a OTB (off the box) iPhone/iPod Touch of version 1.1.2 and below will be in great luck.

It will be like the case of PSP. Years ago, when PSP was still in it’s prime, every single PSP fanboy wanted to get a version 1.5 PSP. Think about it, this version is so hard to come by that modders sell their version 1.5 PSP at a higher price. Until, someone kind enough to show how to hack the PSP and downgrade it successfully.

By the look of this, if future iPod software prevents downgrading to a lower version, then 1.1.2 and below versions will be the most sought after products.

I’m so lucky that I didn’t sell off my iPod Touch as intended in the first place. Now I’m beginning to love the 3rd party apps.

C’mon Apple, give these people a chance to prove their skills and abilities. The fact that 3rd party apps are made possible is because of a strong community who help each other and share ideas. And these developers are freelancers, all they get is “thanks”.

I really hope there will be future possible jailbreaking attempts to the newer versions. Just like PSP.

Non-jailbroken iPhone gets warranty void because of custom ringtones

January 12, 2008 at 2:46 am (Hot Stuff, Technical Stuffs, iPhone) (, )

This article is one hell of a funny way to void your warranty.

How can a custom ringtone, void the warranty of the product?

Come on, in the programmer’s point of view, a hardware failure doesn’t usually connects with a software background. Especially, if it’s 2 different things.

How can the SIM card, and the ringtone fall under the same category? What if you get the same problem when using it “legally”? Will that void the warranty as well? Because the cause of the problem is determined such that the product have been tampered with, and it is not a default failure.

Apple also make it difficult to compromise their customer’s pleas? Such a slight problem and you won’t give in?

I find this ridiculous. Just because someone uses a workaround to get his custom ringtone, doesn’t mean it affects the hardware. NEVER! Unless, it affects the dock connector, then maybe I’ll believe Apple story for the device being tampered with, and as such will not be covered by the warranty.

Hence, the ultimate message is: always restore your iPhone/iPod Touch using the force restore mode before sending the faulty device to an Apple representative for maintenance or repairs.

Period.

First iPhone/iPod Touch trojan horse

January 12, 2008 at 2:28 am (Hot Stuff, Technical Stuffs, iPhone, iPod Touch) (, , , , , , , , , )

Well the good news is, you can’t get this trojan horse if you did not jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch. So if you’re one of those who wouldn’t dare to jailbreak your device, then this does not concern you.

Apparently, an 11 year old smart ass kid developed a so-called important software update “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep”. However this program does not do anything, and only says “shoes”. Maybe something to do with shoes? :P

So if you have guessed, this trojan horse does not do anything when installed. It creates problems only when uninstalled. It affects the iPhone/iPod Touch bin folders such as Erica’s Utilities, OpenSSH and Doom, just to name a few, when the user tries to remove this program via uninstall.

Lucky for you, it’s easy to sort it out by just simply re-installing the affected programs. But it’s a hassle right?

The boy’s father have been approached and talked to, while the boy, have been given some unpleasant “slow talk”. Well I hope he could use his expertise onto something else much more meaningful, and that helps people!
