Hmmm looks like he took out the link a minute after I posted this…

Well guys, I think version 2.0 is coming, so we’ll have to wait a while…

  2. dermapthera said,

Heh. As I suspected. Version 2.0 is just out minutes ago. Good luck all.

    Hi guys!

Sorry for a little late response. I’m trying to figure out why that happens also.

You can try following the video proof (viewed at zibri’s blog) and he have a step-by-step instructions on how you could do that.

I realised that it MIGHT not work on some models. So I hope you guys be a little patient and I will definitely try to get as much help as possible.

    Cheers.

  11. jrsade said,

This BSD root problem seems to happen (only?) with the 16GB model.

  12. dermapthera said,

    Hi jrsade

It’s possible that this applies to 16GB models (and maybe the 32GB one too), but I can’t confirm.

There’s no underlying difference in the architecture of the device (be it 8GB or 16GB or maybe 32GB) in my opinion though, it’s just the space difference.

But if someone can prove to me that I’m wrong, be my guest.

    Cheers.

  13. jrsade said,

There are many blogs around now discussing this problem. Hundreds of users mostly with the 16GB model get the error message. Some users even tried it on a 8GB iPod where it worked and then on a 16GB model where it failed.
My guess is that it has something to do with installing the BSD subsystem. Maybe partitioning is different on the 16GB+ models.

  14. Eirik said,

I followed both(you and zibri’s video) and its the same.

    I got a 16 gb so maybe its that:/

  15. dermapthera said,

    Hi Eirik

My guess is that this might not work yet with 16GB iPod Touches.

But some people manage to jailbreak their 16GB iPod Touch. So this is a bit confusing.

I will try to digg more on this. Do let me know if you guys got anything to share.

    Cheers.

  16. Eirik said,

    Thank you;D
    I will!

  17. momott said,

Ok dermapthera finally got around to doing what was on the blog link you posted earlier and sadly no luck. It is only for iphone. I will try this once my download is complete but I just got got gpSPhone and psx4all set up and I am tired of following previous methods with no results. One quick question, do I completely have to update to 1.1.3 first because that is a bit of a hassle for my computer? Everything else seems fine though! Thanks man!

  18. Jordan said,

um, how do i boot in dfu mode, or how do i use it? my itouch is having the same problem, and i need to fix it please help me

  19. Jordan said,

i unplugged it once it started looping, so my comp does not reckognize it anymore anywhere, its a problem, please help, it just does that root error and my computer doesnt reckognize it at all

  20. Chris said,

I have an 8 gig iTouch, have the same
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

issue. I tried twice, the second time definitely from a virgin 1.1.3, with Jailbreak only selected with ziPhone v2.1.

  21. Chris said,

    To Jordan,

You can follow this link to restore back to 1.1.3 or any other image:

    http://www.oscot.com/apple/how-to-make-an-itouch-with-bsd-root-md0-major-2-minor-0-work-again.html

    It worked for me.

  22. dermapthera said,

    Hi Chris

Thanks for the link, it might be useful for some people to kick out of the looping error and try all over again.

Some people reported to have this working, others don’t. For those who didn’t get it to work, sorry about that.

It’s possible that the way it’s coded is designed for one test device zibri’s working on. And as he confessed, he does not test it on a iPod Touch. This confirmation is only made by another guy (the video) and I saw another confirmation from another blog.

If you’re patient enough, you can keep re-trying.

    Cheers.

  23. jrsade said,

Zibri should write on his download page that there are problems with the 16GB iPod touch before hundreds of people try and fail…

  24. dermapthera said,

    Hi jrsade

The thing is, some people have successes jailbroken into their 1.1.3 firmware using ZiPhone. But on an older version. I’m still finding the old version of ZiPhone, although zibri specifically said that there’s not much changes in the coding itself.

I’m not too sure here man, but anyone else have successes? Share with us.

    Cheers!

  25. CherryTree said,

    FYI:

Zibri has acknowloedged on his blog that that his tool would fail on iTouch 16/32Go models that have 2 SSD chips instead of one…
So a pretty good % of them.

(You might wanna publish a warning here)

  26. dermapthera said,

    Hi CherryTree

Thanks for the notice. I’ve reflected it on my post already.

I hope a better version will be out soon.

    Cheers.

  27. Stevenn said,

I have succesfully jailbreakt my iPod Touch, only the installer app stops with ‘refreshing sources’ . in 1.5 our it only cam to the half.
    What can i do?

  28. Stevenn said,

i tried to download it again and now i get the bsd mdo major 2 minor 0 error,
how do i get that awa?
    how can i shut it?

  29. momott said,

OMG It worked!!!!!! Thank you so much! After weeks and weeks of trying to jailbreak 1.1.3 a thing finally worked for me. The only real problems I have run into are
    1. When I first reconnected my ipod touch it told me It couldn’t read my “iphone” and that an unknown error occured and I just had to reconnect my ipod and it was fixed (no big deal).
    2. A little bit more annoying: I had about .6 of a gb full of stuff when I updated to 1.1.3 (songs and stuff) and I would love to know how to delete them if possible and also how to get the Zibri’s Blog icon off springboard.
If anyone knows how to fix any of these problems, really only number 2, then I would be most obliged and dermapthera, please reply to this one 🙂 Thx every1!

  30. dermapthera said,

    Hi momott

Wow, your patience worked in the end huh? Anyway I’m happy for you.

Just a quick question: Is the zibri’s blog icon a web icon or an application icon? Most probably you can find it somewhere, but I’ll try to dig into it ok?

    Cheers.

  31. dermapthera said,

    Hi Stevenn

I have written about it under “Now I can’t use my iPod due to the BSD error!”. Please read that one.

Note: If you’re running a 16GB/32GB iPod Touch, please refrain from trying this jailbreak. It is not proven to work on most devices yet.

    Cheers!

  32. Christian said,

excuse me i want to know if this works to active the iphone with other company not AT&T and not even the same country (MX), cz my cousin wants one, and i was reading this could jailbreak, and activate, but no one said it works with a not at&t sim card, can someone please tell me if this works or wut do i have to do to make it work with a MX sim? please

  33. dermapthera said,

    Hi Christian

If you asked me regarding iPhone, I’m very sorry but I cannot help you…

    That’s because:

    1) I don’t have an iPhone
    2) There’s no iPhone sale here in Singapore
    3) I wanted an iPhone too! But using with another carrier is too troublesome for me

But you can visit zibri’s blog and read other people’s comment. I’m sure there are bound to answer your question.

Or visit other iPhone related forums and ask them.

Sorry because I couldn’t answer your question.

    Cheers.

  34. Stevenn said,

Thanx, now i have my iPod working again, only i tried again and now he’s ‘spamming AT, waiting for a response’ but the iPod Touch (8GB) freezes there, there isnt happening something anymore

  35. momott said,

Dermapthera: to answer your question, when I tap it it goes to safari and opens up his blog page. Although more annoying is the half gigabyte space problem. That’s all that I had used up before upgrading and now I can’t remove it! From my research I have found that bosstool has an option that says ‘wipe disk space’ or something and I wondered exactly what that would do? Plz respond quickly and thx again!

  36. dermapthera said,

    Hi momott

I know what you’re talking about. This is the 1.1.3 function, to be able to add web icons (I forgot the correct name for it) into your home screen.

Try this: When you press and hold the icon (like trying to do the wiggling thing), does a little X appear? If it does, then simply “X” it. I saw that this is the way to remove the web icon from the springboard.

To look inside the device via SSH/iphonebrowser, I’m not sure myself where to start looking. But this should give you a clue.

    Good luck.

P.S: I’ll definitely hit back when I figured it out! It’s such a trivial matter.

    Cheers.

  37. momott said,

Ok big update! I did what you said but I needed the Jan. software update. I added ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml and found the software upgrade in installer (iphone applications + wiggle feature is what I beleive its called) and then used wiggle to delete it exactly as described. Now when I tried to restart it, it was stuck at the apple logo. Now on his website he acknowledges this and put out a new version, 2.2, that fixes this bug. As for the space problem, I just installed iphonebrowser and I am going to try to delete anything not in installer. Thanks and plz tell me what you find! Hope this helps!

  38. momott said,

Alright fixed the space problem! So simple too… just force restore it and you should have nothing at all on it! Then you just have to put everything back on it. Alright this should help most people having problems. Ok thx!

  39. dermapthera said,

    Hi momott

    Wow. I couldn’t believe I was right!

Anyway, when you say restart, what exactly did you do? People only get stuck at the Apple screen during the jailbreak process, so I was wondering what causes yours to hang at there…

Anyway, do share if you figured out anything.

You were “this close” to getting it right… Just be a little more patient and I’m sure it well worth it.

    Good luck!

  40. dermapthera said,

    But dude…

If you do that, won’t you start all over again on an unjailbroken iPod? Hmmm :/

  41. momott said,

Well for me, I turned it off and turned it back on. This is only an issue in 2.1 so people trying to upgrade and jailbreak need to find 2.2 on zibree’s blog. Also yes, I had a dumb iPod but thankfully the jailbreak process was simple enough to do a second time. I wonder if I can request a blog? I was looking at ipodtouchmaster.com and tried to get the mp3 files to download to my iPod touch and no luck. I bet you could find a way to do it well on 1.1.3. Just an idea but it would be cool… So tell me what you think!

  42. dermapthera said,

    Hi momott

I wonder where that “mp3” is… Anyway why would you want to download mp3? There are other methods to do that right? (Like syncing into your iPod the normal way?)

I doubt downloaded mp3’s can be played without copying it back to the computer, then syncing it back to the iPod. I don’t know, but I bet this idea might fail.

Well I hope someone is developing something like your idea and prove me wrong. 🙂

    Cheers!

  43. netean said,

Don’t panic if you get the BSD loop error.

it’s easy to get back to 1.1.3.

Press and hold Home button and power button until ipod shuts down.

    Uplug cable from ipod

Hold down home button and plug cable into ipod. Keep holding home button

Ipod WILL enter recovery mode, where you can then open up itunes, it recognises that it’s in recovery mode and then restore to original 1.1.3 firmware.

(itunes crashes a lot for me, and occasionally this means that it won’t recognise my ipod) just reboot and follow above instructions. all will be fine.

OH CAVEAT: obviously you WILL lose all your data on ipod when you try either the ziphone method or the restore to 1.1.3.

But relax, your ipod is NOT broken.

  44. wolfdart said,

Hi, I updated the firmware with sucess, but some things dont work!

I cant drag the item on Home screen and change its position! I cant, too, add a webpage on Home screen!

I need intall something with Installer? And the iPhone program. I want its too, but I dont find on Installer!

    Sorry my English.

I hope anybody can help me!

    Tks!

  45. wolfdart said,

    Hi, I solved the problem!

    If anybody wants:

    – Add a repository: ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml

    – Install iPhone Apps 1.1.3!

    Enjoy!

  46. momott said,

Hey sorry to bother you again (especially since I already have done this twice and it worked great both times) but this is just something wierd. I installed summerboard and used ipodtouchmaster’s fix so I could use themes. Still every theme I tried worked great. Now I wanted my old theme, gee theme. I uploaded it exactly where he said it was supposed to go and it showed up in summerboard and everything but when I clicked on it like with every theme and pressed home, no icons changed and the backround was one of the 28 preloaded wallpapers on, and it was on springboard. This only happens with that theme and I left a response on his site, but I wanted to know what you thought.

P.S. I got the thing I described in my earlier post working and it is pretty convenient…

  47. dermapthera said,

    Hi momott

I’m using the Gee theme myself, but I don’t think there’s any icons? (or maybe there is, but a little).

I’m not sure how you could remedy this problem though.

Let me know if you figured out anything!

    Cheers.

  48. seabhac said,

Got an intresting effect here. First time I tried it, IT WORKED like a charm on my 16 G ipod touch. After a while I got some problem with SummerBoard and had to reset the device using iTunes. I tried the Ziphone jailbreak again and from then on I get the BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0 error like a lot of people here. But IMHO this shows, that it does not is a hardware problem on the 16 GB device.

I have tried the jailbreak and got the BSD-root error now about 8 times (still counting)

Hope there is a solution soon.

  49. dermapthera said,

    Hi seabhac

And if it really proves that it’s not a hardware problem like what you’ve described, I’m sure there’s a fix to it. It might have something to do with the internals?

Maybe the device needs a prep or something.

Care to share? Like what was it on before you attempted this jailbreak?

Here’s an example (AS AN EXAMPLE ONLY!):
    -start with jailbroken 1.1.2
    -installed BSD subsystem 2.0
    -SHIFT-Restore 1.1.3
    -ZiPhone

If probably you knew what was your device on before the attempt update, we probably could learn a little bit more on how this can be done.

    Cheers.

  50. jaronb said,

I have 16 gb ipod touch, and I jailbroke it when it was 1.1.1 and I’ve kept it that way cuz I’m fine with it. Two friends have given me their 8 gb ipods, both of which are 1.1.3. The first one i was able to jailbreak with ziphone no problem. The second one continues to get the BDS error. What’s different about this ipod though is that it has a Software Upgrade, and my friend told me the mail, maps, stocks, ect. came with it. Could that be why it’s not working?

  51. dermapthera said,

    Hi jaronb

Thanks for the valuable feedback. If the January Software Update is the culprit, this might prove a lot of things.

However, I cannot give you a credible answer for that. Since you’re the only person who has both versions, you’re the only one who can test it right now.

My question: What happened to the second iPod (the one that came with the January App)? Did you restore it? And when you restore, did the January app came back? Now, if there’s no more January app after restoring, did you try the ZiPhone again?

Let me know what you found out ok? This could very well be the answer.

    Cheers.

  52. jaronb said,

With the iPod with the January app, I restored it and unfortunatly the apps were still there. I then downgraded it to 1.1.1, and then installed 1.1.3 from Apple, but the apps came back once again. I’m back at square one.

  53. dermapthera said,

    Hi jaronb

Seems like this one’s a little tricky.

I’ll see around to see if I can learn anything. I doubt the january apps is within the device itself (maybe in the ROM? I don’t know…)

Another question: When you restore into 1.1.3, did you restore or update (from 1.1.1)? Also, did you sync your backup or made it like a new device?

This is really getting on my nerves… Though it’s not me who’s experiencing it…

Well, let me know what you find out.

    Cheers.

  54. Tommy Boy said,

Well I also have a 16 gig itouch and no go with the jailbreak, I just wish I never spent the 20 bucks on the stupid upgrade in which for some reason my GPS thing don’t work. 😦 I hope someone figures this thing out soon. Apple is startin to suck.

  55. Alen_D said,

my itouch after Ziphone 2.0 starts an forever loop and didnt go to Restore mode , i need help to restore the firm for the 1.1.1

    😦

  56. dermapthera said,

    Hi Alen_D

Read my part in the post titled “Now I can’t use my iPod due to the BSD error!”. Use that solution to temporarily fix your problem.

Once you’re on 1.1.3, then use DFU mode to downgrade back to 1.1.1.

    Cheers.

I had the bsd loop error and tried your suggestion, it worked!! Thank you so much, saved my life!

  58. david said,

yea i still cant get it to work i tryed all the ways above including command line mthod and all i keep geting is

    BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0

  59. dermapthera said,

    Hi david

ZiPhone might not work in most iPods. Those who could get it to work are most probably lucky.

If you are experiencing these problems, I suggest you forget it. I myself is trying to find a way on how to make it work successfully.

I’ve got a feeling, there’s some connections with the internal file system. If only I could figure out what those errors means.

    Sorry if I couldn’t help.

Your best bet now is to restore into 1.1.3, then downgrade to 1.1.1 if you want to use a jailbroken iPod.

    Cheers.

please help me!! my ipod touch 16gb wont go to restore mode after BSD Major minor Error, im getting in panic. i think someone could create a tool to force to Recovery mode. the ziphone tool screw up my weekend.

again i read your solution and really dont work for me dermapthera , always the same screen 😦

  62. dermapthera said,

    Hi Alen_D

The key here is patience. That’s why it’s “try at your own risk”.

Follow this tip from a nice fellow reader.

I doubt your iPod is bricked. Just be patient and try again.

    Good luck!

  63. Alen_D said,

i tried several times, in the first 3 times yesterday, this works but when itunes starts the loop start again, now even unplugin and plugin again i have no action more, its seems something Blocking the recovery mode.

i just needed something to stop this looping.
    to really do this.

  64. dermapthera said,

    Hi Alen_D

It has come to my disappointment that I am unable to help you on this one.

Seriously, the ONLY way is to get into DFU mode, then restoring back to 1.1.3.

    Try this video.

    This is the proof.

Good luck. I think you’ll need it.

  65. Alen_D said,

I would think if i´m not the only Lottery winner 😦

i will try with a macOs today, like you in the video.

SWEET ASS! just jail broke my 16 GB iPhone. Very easy to use, super fast! Highly recommended!

  69. HL said,

I might have the same problem as Alen_D.

I get the ‘BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0’ loop, but cant turn it off into the recovery mode.

I try the hold down home+power for 10 secs to turn it off, but it wont. I have tried this countless of times. It will keep looping the same line til it runs out of power and goes blank.

Then I try the home+power startup to get it into recovery mode but no luck as It doesn’t have the power to start up. I connect it to my mac via USB cable and get the battery display with a thin red line indicating low power. I think it is charging then. In a few minutes, it jumps from this screen into the log screen, running like looks like start up procedures, then back into the ‘BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0’ loop.

Throughout this, iTunes wont recognize it nor iNdependance.

I used ziphone 2.4 on a unhacked Pod touch 16Gb 1.1.3 with january update.

Like Alen_D, is there another way to force it into recovery mode? beyond the button combination?

  70. Alen_D said,

I have no sucess with macOS, but using firewire the ipod wake up with the apple logo , but still looping .

I think the solution will be the Apple Care.

    Cause Ziphone it´s very disappointing

  71. HL said,

Ok. I think I have a solution for us people where the bottons dont respond while in the loop.

Its pretty crazy, but I have tried many variations til in the end this worked.

    1. Let it charge itself out until the screen goes black.

    2. Charge it via usb cabel for 2 mins only. While this is happening, the screen will have the battery on it with just a small red bar on it.

    3. disconnect

    4. connect, and hit the power+home button immediately.

    5. if the apple shows up, keep the button pressed even when the graphics for restore mode shows up. DONT RELEASE AT THIS POINT. If you release the buttons to early, iTunes will disconnect from the iPod, and the iPod will enter the ‘BSD root: Md0, major 2, minor 0′ loop.

If the screen remains black. charge it a minute more and repeat steps 2-5,

    6. While buttons are held in (use one hand), iTunes should automatically tell you that you have a iPod in restoration mode. Press the restore button and continue restoring while holding down the iPod buttons.

    7. When the apple finally shows up with a spinning star benieth it, then you can let go, and proceed as normal.

Crazy setup I know, but it works. Seems the restore mode buttons only work for me as it starts up after loosing all it charge.

    @ Alen_D

If you return to Apple Care, they will probably find out that you’re trying to jailbreak, and they will tell you that your warranty is void.

Keep trying it first. HL has drawn out a solution for people who faced the same problem as you.

    Good luck.

  73. Alen_D said,

Yeahh!!! i did it , guys thanks a lot for the support, the answer its be very simple i was using a ipodCable “not official” and of course the ipod has problems to do the steps, just in this moment my ipod return to original State.

Thanks a lot, sorry for the incovenience. :ops:

  74. dermapthera said,

    Hi Alen_D

You mean, you used a non-original cable? LOL! That’s the first time I heard someone using that.

May I know why you are using that one instead of the original one?

Maybe this should solve most of the other lot of you having the same problems.

    Cheers.

i had others ipods and i make maintanance in others, but just forgot to change the cable its trully natural for me cause always work before, and today i got another ipod to fix and for 1 minute i remember the original cable.

To me it was always the original apple cable I used. I suspect that my iPod might be a bit dodgy and that the power button doesn’t work very well. Still, it would be interesting to hear if others had the same problem as me.

    Hi ^ToxiC^

It’s probably because your can’t jailbreak using ZiPhone yet. I suggest you restoring back to 1.1.3, then try again (if you want)

Other than that, you should stick to 1.1.2 jailbroken, or try the DevTeam’s Official Upgrader. That one seems the most stable jailbreak version (though it’s not the fastest option).

    Cheers.

To get the ipod out of BSD loop follow these steps:
Download the FW version you want to install. these can be found in alot of forums. I just use 1.1.3.
plug the ipod into the pc and turn the PC volume up.
    open itunes.
hold down the home button and power button together, as soon as the ipod turns off release the power button but keep holding the home button, this may take up to 20 secs.
The PC will beep ack that the ipod has connected and itunes will tell you that the ipod is in recovery mode, you will notice that the ipod screen is still blank.
hold shift and press restore then browse to the FW version you want to install and open it.
The ipod screen will turn white and then go to the apple logo with the activity circle at the bottom. Let the update finish and your ipod will display the recovery screen. let it turn off then turn it back on.
    Wallah.
This also works for iphone. I have been messing with a 8GB iphone and 16GB ipod for the last week. Iphone all good. ipod unbroken.

does this work with the 1.1.4?

  84. dermapthera said,

    Hi alex

Some developers have confirmed that it works.

However, I would not recommend you to upgrade just yet because there are not-so-much difference between 1.1.3 and 1.1.4.

Zibri (author of ZiPhone) is working on a new program to work for iPod Touch and 1.1.4. So we might be seeing a new version coming out soon in the next few days.

    Cheers.

just restored my 16gig touch from the infiny loop today, all attempts failed EXCEPT restoring to new 1.1.4 upgrade, this worked, and with a none o.e. cable. once the touch was up and running again, i was able to go back and restore back to 1.1.3, but no earlier versions would work

also, my 8gig touch version 1.1.3 will NOT restore to earlier sw version, and i am unable to get ZiPhone to jailbreak correctly at all, says that its done, but when rebooted, says that i must restore using itunes, which rejerks it back to normal again, now im stuck with this infiny loop of trying to break, not working, then restoring and try again! done did it like 20 times with no luck on successful jailbreak. any thoughts on what i am doing wrong here?

    Hi asecmt

To downgrade to older firmware versions, you’ll need to put your iPod into DFU mode. Search my site for instructions on how to do that.

As for ZiPhone, try using the latest version (2.5c). It has a GUI which can be used prior to jailbreaking.

If all fails, try restoring into factory 1.1.3 or 1.1.4, making sure that you do not restore the backup (iTunes will ask you). Set it up as a new profile.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers.

    Hi asecmt,

Read my post above also, DFU mode is when the screen stays blank and the PC acknowlages the connection. If it keeps going back to the restore screen after jailbreaking it, in ZiPhone hit the Advanced dropdown and deselect all options then on the right hit Normal.
    That should do the trick.

    Hey, ummm
I followed your steps and it seems like its all working, but I get the “Spamming AT, waiting for a response” error, the only problem is, I have an 8GB, iPod touch, soo why would it do this? and what should I do?

  89. dermapthera said,

    Hi Ben

Try again. Until today, ZiPhone works randomly, so if it didn’t worked out well for you, you could try it again.

Or you could visit my other page for another method.

    Cheers.

    Stuck at Apple logo

Well, it’s the same as the BSD/looping error, only that you didn’t see what’s happening. So you will need to restore back your iPod into factory 1.1.3 to try again.

Any other errors? Share them here. Leave your comments for that.

this one worked for the 1.1.4
