Make custom carrier images/logo (iPod Touch)

February 18, 2008 at 2:26 pm (How to, iPod Touch, Technical Stuffs, Tips and Tricks, Version 1.1.1, Version 1.1.2, Version 1.1.3)

The follow up for this post is here.

Hi guys!

I know this sounds a bit old, because I’ve only figured how to do this just TODAY! 😀

I was looking around to make my own carrier image for my boring iPod Touch, but I think I kept hitting the wrong keywords. And it always brings me to wrong places. So one day, I brace myself to ask someone (and hopefully he’s a nice guy!) to figure it out.

Then one day he replied! I was overjoyed. Hahaha… Didn’t really expect some complete stranger to help me out. I was so helpless.

Anyway, since I figured it out, I’m going to share with you how you could do it. (Full complete steps)

What are the things I’ll need?

You’ll need a PNG-8 image (don’t worry if you don’t understand), and it’s maximum height is 20px. You can use mine though if you want! 🙂

Here’s mine (I’ve converted into PNG8 format, for smallest filesize):

Next, you’ll need something that you can access your iPod Touch’s internal system. For me, I’m using the trusty iphonebrowser. Use google, I’m sure you can find it easily.

So what do I do? (Finding the correct file)

You’ll need to search for the original file. If you don’t want to lose it, rename it so that you can replace it if you don’t want to use it anymore.

Step 1: Open iphonebrowser application

Step 2: Click on Goto Location -> Springboard Images and Settings

Step 3: Rename Default_CARRIER_IPOD.png into Default_CARRIER_IPOD.png.bk. This is necessary if you want to revert back to the original iPod carrier. Do the same for FSO_CARRIER_IPOD.png.

Step 4: Drag and drop your images (or you can use mine as a sample) into this same box (where you saw the files). Make sure the filenames are correct. You’ll need Default_CARRIER_IPOD.png and FSO_CARRIER_IPOD.png as the filenames.

Step 5: Restart springboard by using Summerboard. Or killboard. Or you can use Erica Utilities. Any method you use, all you need to do is restart the springboard to take effect. Alternatively, you can simply reboot your iPod Touch.

I need help! I’m a n00b13!1!111!!11

Well, you can always ask me. Or you can read the original write up. Either way, I hope to be of assistance to you.

Good luck!

Proposed demo CD cover

February 16, 2008 at 4:25 am (Dermapthera)

Hi guys!

I was bored this morning, so I decided to do some designing on the CD cover I thought would be cool that fits our band.

So, I had visualized designs that have a rose in it, some pentagram, and some tribal fonts…

And viola! The finished product!

I designed this from various fonts and tribal designs I gathered online. Of course, I wouldn’t use anything that aren’t free, so if they’re copyrighted stuff, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

I’m against copyright shit, so I hope to see cooperation here.

Anyway, here’s the proposed design. Let me know what you think. I might be changing this in the future. I’m open to critism, as long as it’s constructive.

Let’s take a look shall we? Read the rest of this entry »

Some people are just… selfish

February 15, 2008 at 7:24 pm (Personal)

To whom it may concern,

I know time and money have been a concern to you. If you have cared for the feelings of the other 4 of us, we could have still be together.

I can’t believe you made me worried for nothing. After all these times, I was thinking maybe you’re hit with a financial problem, or someone in your family was stricken to a disease that requires full attention to. But I was wrong. All you did was kept quiet. None of us knew what’s happening.

Not until one day I learnt the truth. Truth hurts you know. The bond we’ve built, the joys and sorrows we shared… It was priceless. You can never rebuilt the friendship once lost. You choose you break it. And you don’t trust to tell anybody about it.

You had your stupid motorbike to pay, and your girlfriend to treat to. I had the same problem the other time, remember? And I choose to leave because none of them are willing to give and take. But sooner or later, they realised that it was an inevitable denial that they can’t progress without me. Hence I decided to give another chance, and we lived happily ever after.

To you my dear friend, if you had told us you had money problems, WE CAN GIVE YOU. If you feel that you’ve got no time to spend with your girlfriend, WE CAN GIVE YOU TIME. If you feel that you’ve been ignored, I AM HERE TO LISTEN. All you need to do is OPEN YOUR FUCKING MOUTH AND SPEAK.

Well, I’m just saddened to the fact that the dreams we once shared was no longer there. You chose to separate ways with us. I hope you’ll find happiness in whatever you’re looking for.

P.S: For your information, we don’t jam every week. Everyone is tight on their budget. Not just you. Everybody else too.

Thank you for your support, Fadli. We don’t need it anymore. I’m just sad.

Yours unfaithfully,

Whoever you want me to be.

Dolphins are cute…. but not in some countries

February 15, 2008 at 5:52 pm (From the News)

dolphins2.jpgAt first I was against the killing of dolphins in Japan.

But when I think about it, I saw Japan as the victim and US as the bully. Why? If the richest can kill thousands of salmons every year for their eggs and everyone seems to be fine with it, why can’t the Japanese keep their dolphins as a delicacy?

Dolphins are not on the endangered species list. So why worry? Because humans have an emotional attachment to the dolphins?

dermapthera’s note: It’s because, we grow up watching dolphins in the zoo, entertaining people. And, we watched too much Free Willy (although, that’s a Killer Whale, doesn’t have any resemblance to this at all…)

Interesting place to visit in Singapore

February 15, 2008 at 1:09 am (Random Snaps)

Kay Poh RoadHi guys!

If you like to stick your noses into someone elses business (like looking for Edison Chen’s scandals and stupid leaked pornography pictures), you ought to visit this place.

It’s the best place to be! For all those KPO boys and girls, ladies and gentlemens, gays and lesbians… 🙂

Sorry, no pornographic pictures for you stupid willies. Hehehe… Go find elsewhere. I don’t even care that it’s leaked in the first place.

How to recognise a good programmer

February 14, 2008 at 10:44 pm (How to)

ProgrammerThis dude wrote an interesting article.

I’m a programmer myself, and I have to agree with what he’s saying. Most of it though.

It’s a good learning experience for me.

He outline the differences between a good programmer, and a claimed-to-be-good programmer. This is vital for people who have no programming background, and wanting to hire good programmers to boost their company.
