In Flames (A Sense Of Purpose) Album Review
Looks like In Flames have changed their sound?
But I still liked the vocalist’s voice. Not too gore, not too clean. Just nice for an aggressive music with lots of melodies. I think it suits In Flames very well.
You can listen to the the whole album songs at In Flames official MySpace account. (As of date of post, it could be removed in the near future)

You’ll be rocking in no time!
My personal review rating: 8.5/10
Reasons: I missed the old In Flames. Much more aggressive and faster paced. But I think In Flames musical talents are way beyond judgement, hence they still preserve their sound. A mixture of fast and slow tempo music, a mix of breakdowns and punchy riffs, well it’s all about metal isn’t it?

it is all about metal…but this more like rock. sorry, just my opinion. don’t get me wrong, i still think it’s a good album, just wish it would have been a bit more aggressive and maybe a couple of faster type songs. maybe next time.

Yeap, I’d appreciate your comments.
One thing I will admit is that the vocal style is still the same. If compared to bands like A7X, where after multiple album releases, they start to change their vocal style (which in the end, became a trademark sound). But, that’s what I’m trying to say. I love bands who probably change sounds or musical directions, but not vocal directions.

6/10… It is just missing the force that other albums have had except for reroute/soundtrack. Even Come Clarity had those fast paced killer riffs that this album is just completely devoid of.

This album rawks! Yes it is a lot different from Lunar Strain and The Jester Race, but surely that’s just evolution. This band rock harder than any other melodic death metal band I know. Yes, At the Gates were cool, but In Flames raise the bar with every new album (minus Soundtrack to Your Escape). Come Clarity was a sign of the new direction… and I love it. That’s why I’m not disappointed by A Sense of Purpose. If anything, I’m relieved! Condemned, Alias and The Chosen Pessimist are the highlights of an amazing album. People… In Flames are your gods!!!

That’s sad…
They removed their songs already on their MySpace site.
Nonetheless, I think I’ll probably go grab their album soon…

Sober and Irrelevant + Delight and Angers are both brilliant, still nothing close to jester Race.

You have to realise, as many below have done, that In Flames cannot keep making records like The Jester Race and Colony, they grow and mature musically. I think this is a beautiful album with incredible melodies. And i wouldn’t say anything less as In Flames are my lords and saviours. If anything at all, there were too many keys for there not to be a keyboardist in the band. But either way they were put to good use and another genre defining album from In Flames. March to the Shore was easily my standout track, more due to the lyrical style and intensity than the music. To my brothers, walk with me in flames..
