Hi guys.

I am going to relocate most of my non-band related content from this blog onto another blog.

Although I enjoyed getting a lot of reads lately, it seems that this blog has become a little bit non-standard. I have loyal readers (I hope) and people who’d be willing to come to me to ask for help. I enjoy helping as much as possible.

And not forgetting being featured in WordPress’s BOTD and fastest growing blog, I’m just so honoured. But my decision is final.

Most links WILL be broken (if you have linked to me). I will not leave any trace of the post in this blog at all.

Since I’m getting more and more ready for my band Dermapthera, I plan to use this domain name (dermapthera.wordpress.com) as an official blog for the band only. I have been sticking to the domain name for as long as I can remember, and most people in the blogosphere will identify me as “dermapthera”.

I find that this could be misleading in the near future. Although I don’t see the band anywhere being successful in the near future, there’s still a possibility that we could be if we worked hard. Me and my vocalist have drawn out our visions for the future of the band and what we could do.

Hence I would like to take this opportunity to migrate to another blog. A new blog name, a new blog address. And I need a new identity. I don’t want to be remembered as “dermapthera”, but instead, as the “guitarist of dermapthera”.

When my new blog is ready, I will announce the address again. For now, I might not be updating new contents yet.

Sorry if I have caused any inconvenience. You guys have been great, and I have been enjoying a lot from blogging here.

Expected migration period will take one week (starting today). I will re-announce again once migration is successful.

Cheers.

P.S: The main reason why I placed all the tag/categories there is to reach out to potential RSS readers.

Jailbreak iPhone 1.1.3 to be released soon

January 24, 2008 at 4:11 pm (Hot Stuff, iPhone, iPod Touch, Technical Stuffs) ()

I thought the developers are waiting for the official SDK to come out.

But it seems that the jailbreak method for 1.1.3 is sooner than I think it is.

Looks like it won’t be easy to jailbreak 1.1.3 without any knowledge and experience. Those who are less tech savvy users might opt not to try to jailbreak their 1.1.3 until a simpler solution comes out (in about a month or 2).

I myself might not be jailbreaking it that soon. At least, until someone posts up in places like YouTube and stuff.

Stay tuned!

Jailbreak the iPod Touch version 1.1.3

January 20, 2008 at 5:31 am (Hot Stuff, iPhone, iPod Touch, Technical Stuffs) ()

Oops…

There’s no tutorial here. Just news.

If you haven’t heard, 1.1.3 jailbreak is now POSSIBLE. There’s a YouTube video on it, but shit, I lost the link. I’ll post it back if I managed to find it.

Jailbreak 1.1.3

This method, released by NateTrue, is a jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhone. You can use the same method released by him on your iPod Touch.

Read: Jailbreak 1.1.3 released! Unofficially…

So now it’s a matter of time before Apple tries to, you know, do the stuff they do…

Production cost for Sony PlayStation 3 is reduced by half

January 13, 2008 at 5:22 am (Hot Stuff, Technical Stuffs) ()

Source: Engadget

If this turns out to be true, I am definitely getting my PS3 in the last quater of this year. This will definitely be a great bargain, since PS3 is getting WAYYYY too costly now.

People are still judging the PS3 with the XBox 360 with it’s price. If PS3 do really manage to reduce the price tag by half, I’m sure all the Sony fanboy who’d get their first PS3 will be furious.

And 50% is a lot. Here, new set of 60GB Sony PS3 cost about S$800, and the price are not reducing one bit. If it’s reduced by 50%, that would mean it would cost for S$400! And that’s a great deal.

But my take is that retailers here will definitely use this as their advantage.

But imagine this: if Sony already reduce the price, and they still sell at $800 just for that few days, they’re making a quick buck! But that’s dishonesty! And they will use stupid pick up lines like “Look now it cost $800 but if you buy now, I’ll give you a ridiculous offer of $500!”. Still, they make a quick buck out of it.

The power of lying = more money.

A Gibson electric guitar that tunes itself!

January 12, 2008 at 3:33 pm (Hot Stuff) (, )

Holy shit! I can’t believe my eyes when I see this video.

I’m definitely getting my hands on one even if it takes me ages to collect the money. I want this piece of shit man!

It’s a Gibson electric guitar that has a capability to tune itself. No more listening and manual tuning, the guitar does the tuning. Don’t believe me? See below.

Polish teen hacks into train system, injuring 12 people

January 12, 2008 at 3:27 pm (Hot Stuff) (, )

Source: The Register

A 14 year old polish teen in the city of Lodz  has allegedly used his smart ass to play with a Polish public transport system.

He constructed a device like a TV remote control to alter the the tram’s direction. Apparently, he has been trespassing the local  tram depots to gather information needed to built the device.

Because of his talent, he derailed 4 trains, injuring 12 passengers. Luckily, nobody was hurt during his mischievous prank.

He is now sent to special juvenile court of charges for endangering public safety.

——————————

Put that aside,  I wished the boy’s smart ass could be used to help the Polish train system. I mean, if it’s that easy for a 14 year old boy to manipulate the system, it could mean that the security in place is lax.

Think about it. It’s like a platform for future, more dangerous attempts, especially terror threats if they managed to study such flaw.

I hope more transport systems try to ensure a basic level of security system into their transport network. At least, the depot much have a much tighter security so as to prevent further mishaps.

Non-jailbroken iPhone gets warranty void because of custom ringtones

January 12, 2008 at 2:46 am (Hot Stuff, iPhone, Technical Stuffs) (, )

This article is one hell of a funny way to void your warranty.

How can a custom ringtone, void the warranty of the product?

Come on, in the programmer’s point of view, a hardware failure doesn’t usually connects with a software background. Especially, if it’s 2 different things.

How can the SIM card, and the ringtone fall under the same category? What if you get the same problem when using it “legally”? Will that void the warranty as well? Because the cause of the problem is determined such that the product have been tampered with, and it is not a default failure.

Apple also make it difficult to compromise their customer’s pleas? Such a slight problem and you won’t give in?

I find this ridiculous. Just because someone uses a workaround to get his custom ringtone, doesn’t mean it affects the hardware. NEVER! Unless, it affects the dock connector, then maybe I’ll believe Apple story for the device being tampered with, and as such will not be covered by the warranty.

Hence, the ultimate message is: always restore your iPhone/iPod Touch using the force restore mode before sending the faulty device to an Apple representative for maintenance or repairs.

Period.

First iPhone/iPod Touch trojan horse

January 12, 2008 at 2:28 am (Hot Stuff, iPhone, iPod Touch, Technical Stuffs) (, , , , , , , , , )

Well the good news is, you can’t get this trojan horse if you did not jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch. So if you’re one of those who wouldn’t dare to jailbreak your device, then this does not concern you.

Apparently, an 11 year old smart ass kid developed a so-called important software update “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep”. However this program does not do anything, and only says “shoes”. Maybe something to do with shoes? 😛

So if you have guessed, this trojan horse does not do anything when installed. It creates problems only when uninstalled. It affects the iPhone/iPod Touch bin folders such as Erica’s Utilities, OpenSSH and Doom, just to name a few, when the user tries to remove this program via uninstall.

Lucky for you, it’s easy to sort it out by just simply re-installing the affected programs. But it’s a hassle right?

The boy’s father have been approached and talked to, while the boy, have been given some unpleasant “slow talk”. Well I hope he could use his expertise onto something else much more meaningful, and that helps people!

iPod Touch vs iPhone: Part 1

December 23, 2007 at 2:23 am (Hot Stuff, iPhone, iPod Touch, Reviews) (, , , , , , )

The last time I heard about the iPhone was around 6 months ago. I was all excited about this new phone and began googling about it. I even rewatched all the iPhone videos on YouTube like a dozen times because I’m simply mesmerized by it’s features and design aesthetics.
